Sarasota County Emergency Services is urging residents to start planning for Community Wildfire Preparedness Day on Saturday, May 2.

Officials say even small projects can reduce wildfire risk at home and in the neighborhood. They recommend taking a few minutes to:

• Remove flammable items such as cushions and doormats from decks and porches.
• Clear debris and vegetation around the home.
• Work with neighbors to create defensible space.
